Mishell DiAmonde Green, Missing New York Teen, Found After Family Appears On 'The View' (VIDEO)

According to the FBI , some 270,000 people of color went missing last year and until last week, 16-year-old Mishell DiAmonde Green was one of them.

The New York teen disappeared on September 8, 2011 while on her way to an after-school program called "The Door" in the Soho area of New York, an account her mother, Janell Johnson-Dash, detailed on an episode of "The View" last week.

But just hours after the show aired, an anonymous caller to the Black and Missing Foundation revealed Green's whereabouts and reunited her with her family, ABC News reports .

According to ABC, Green has not yet disclosed what happened to her after she went missing, but her family said the teen is safe and sound, thanking "all who lifted your hearts and voices in prayer, who posted reports, who told about her disappearance, who called us with suggestions, and who were there."

The family's statement also thanked "The View" for "providing a platform that gave Mishell's story the media attention needed for her recovery."

The disparity in news coverage about missing persons of color has garnered increasing attention as of late, prompting a series on TV One network called "Find Our Missing," and segments on "The View" like the one Green's family appeared on.

A lot of people in our community are unaware that this is a big issue because when we turn on the television, we dont see ourselves or people that look like us, Derrica Wilson, Co-Founder, President and CEO of Black and Missing Foundation told The Huffington Post last week . "Often local law enforcement staff assume that missing young black people are runaways."

This reunion proves how vital national media coverage is in finding missing persons, Wilson added in a follow-up episode of "The View" where Johnson-Dash also read a letter of thanks from her daughter Mishell and advised other parents of missing children to never give up their search.
