This Will Make You Never Want To Check A Bag Again

Airlines really are the worst.

The number one reason people hate airlines isn't due to flight delays or inconsistent pricing. According to Catey Hill of Consumer Report's MarketWatch, customers' biggest gripe concerns lost luggage -- and for good reason.

"The airlines lose 24 million bags a year," Hill told HuffPost Live on Wednesday. "Sometimes they're permanently lost, sometimes they're just delayed. But no wonder it's a huge complaint."

What airlines have received the most flack from irritated customers? Hill said Spirit and Frontier get the most "complaints per boarding," likely a result of charging additional fees for checking bags.

"A lot of it is people are mad," she explained. "They have to pay a fee for something, and that starts them off all angry."

Ann's Tips For Traveling Light
1. Ditch The Cotton Underwear (01 of06)

Cotton underwear actually take up a lot of room in the suitcase and are slow to dry. Invest in a few pair of travel underwear. I've been road-testing Ex-Officio's Give-N-Go and while not inexpensive, they are my new go-to panties. Bone dry in six hours after washing. (credit:Flickr: jgh_photo)
2. Make A List Of Everything You Are Packing(02 of06)

It's one of those accountability things, not unlike Weight Watchers. When you see the written list in front of you, you have greater willpower to resist the chocolate bar -- or in my case, the third maxi-dress. (credit:Alamy)
3. Count What You Wear On The Plane(03 of06)

For overnight flights, I like to wear light sweat pants. No reasonthey can't count as a pair of pajamas. (credit:Alamy)
4. Buy Toiletries At Your Destination(04 of06)

You can just toss away what you don't use. Hotels give you most of what you need anyway, and with the TSA making it so hard to carry aboard liquids and gels, why not just take your toothbrush and then buy everything else there? Less to carry, not any more expensive and you haven't lived until you've tried Russian toothpaste. We thought it was vodka-flavored. (credit:Alamy)
5. Don't Bring Your Best Clothes, Bring Your Favorite Clothes(05 of06)

What would you be wearing if you were home? You know which jeans you like the most, which sandals are good for walking in. Bring that stuff. (credit:Alamy)
6. Everyone Likes To Buy New Clothes For A Trip. Don't.(06 of06)

Or if you do, road test them first by wearing them at home. Everything in the suitcase should have been worn and washed before it goes traveling with you. You don't want to bring a cami whose straps fall down all the time and you don't want new sneakers causing blisters. Clothes, like shoes, need to be broken in. (credit:Flickr: bokeh burger)
