'Fox & Friends' Simply Cannot Separate Church And State In Gush Over Mike Johnson

Kayleigh McEnany and Ainsley Earhardt served up an awkward slice of piety in promoting an interview with the new speaker of the House.

Fox & Friends ” preached hard to the choir Tuesday as Kayleigh McEnany and Ainsley Earhardt previewed McEnany’s interview with new House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.). (Watch the video below.)

In banter that seemed to come straight out of Sunday school, McEnany gushed over the religious Johnson. “I really believe he thinks God is leading the way, this will all get figured out,” the former Trump press secretary said.

“And I believe he is here for an Esther-like moment for such a time as this,” she added, quoting part of a Bible passage .

Johnson, an evangelical Christian, was elected House speaker  last week to break a paralyzing GOP stalemate in the House.

“Didn’t you say he’s going to the prayer room every day?” Earhardt asked McEnany.

“Yes, he took me to the prayer room,” McEnany answered, later adding: “He said he’s going to start every morning in prayer in that room before the picture of George Washington on his knees and ask for wisdom and guidance.”

“To everyone out there, pray for him as our speaker,” Earhardt said. “Our country really needs some guidance from God right now.”

It didn’t end there. McEnany then emphasized that she talked to Johnson all about his faith for the interview, which is set to appear on her show “Outnumbered.”

Johnson’s far-right religious views have come under scrutiny.

In 2015, he defended a creationist group  trying to secure tax incentives for a Noah’s Ark-themed amusement park.

He also offered free legal services  to officials who felt it would “compromise their faith” to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage.

A HuffPost report recently revealed that his wife Kelly’s Christian counseling service website equated homosexuality with bestiality and incest . (Those documents were later removed.)
