WHAT'S HAPPENING
The New York Democrat said the GOP's removal of Omar, a Somali American, from the Foreign Affairs Committee is "about targeting women of color."
The vote is payback for Democrats booting Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar from committees in 2021.
Republicans say it would create "major problems" for Omar to serve on Foreign Affairs given her past criticism of Israel.
Rep. Eric Swalwell referred to McCarthy as "weaponizing his ability to commit" political abuse during an appearance on CNN.
The House speaker described the obvious payback as "not anything political."
Kevin McCarthy has his sights set on Omar in retaliation for the two Republicans that Democrats removed from committees.
