While the CDC has yet to identify the source of the outbreak, many of those infected had eaten burgers or sandwiches with romaine lettuce at Wendy's before falling sick.
The fast-food chain Wendys says it is pulling lettuce from sandwiches in its restaurants in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania after people eating them there reported falling ill.
Officials say the tainted lettuce from Salinas, California, has sent 72 people to the hospital.
