Fanny Douvere

Coordinator, World Heritage Marine Programme

Fanny works to safeguard the crown jewels of the ocean. Since 2009, she has led the Marine Programme at the World Heritage Centre of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). In this role, she supports effective conservation of the world's most spectacular and significant ocean areas. The 49 marine sites on the World Heritage list cover 20% by surface area of all the planet's marine protected areas, and include icons such as the Galapagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef, and Glacier Bay. Fanny works together with local site managers, nonprofit organizations and nation states to ensure these special places are preserved for the benefit of all humankind.
