Oh, what a beautiful evening to celebrate Broadways finest at the 73rd annual Tony Awards .

Late-night star and Tony winner in his own right James Corden returned to host ceremony at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday night, as Broadway closed out a historic and record-breaking season with some razzle dazzle.

Hadestown, the long-gestating, mythic folk opera from singer-songwriter Anas Mitchell, had a decidedly heavenly night, scoring eight trophies across major categories, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

But the Temptations jukebox musical Aint Too Proud, which was the second most-nominated production heading into the ceremony, didnt fare as well. The production only picked up the award for Best Choreography.

Tootsie, one of the many stage adaptations of beloved films to appear on Broadway this season, made a Tony winner out of its lead Santino Fontana, while also nabbing the award for Best Book of a Musical.

As for the plays, Jez Butterworths The Ferryman, which revolves around a conflict-ridden Northern Irish family, was the big winner, but the production didnt gain any traction in the star-studded acting categories.

Hollywood made a particularly strong showing this year in the race for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play. Bryan Cranston, who stars in another film-to-stage adaption Network, beat out stiff competition from Jeff Daniels of Aaron Sorkins buzzy stage adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird and and Adam Driver, the male lead in Michael Mayers revival of Burn This.

Broadway staples like Stephanie Block and Celia Keenan-Bolger also took home major and long overdue awards, while stage titans Judith Light and Rosemary Harris, as well as playwright Terrence McNally and orchestrator Harold Wheeler received special Tonys for their dedication to the theater.
